Elaborated with extreme care by Pierrick and Daniel Yvinec, the rythm section is a first-time combination between three masters of their art. On the piano, we have Sullivan Fortner who, despite a misleading young age, displays an amazing maturity (notably, we could hear him alongside award winning singer Cecile McLorin Salvant), on the bass we have the great Larry Grenadier (the historical partner of the Brad Mehldau trio) and on drums the baffling Marcus Gilmore, who shares Fortner's youth and wisdom and perpetuates with brio the magnificent work of his grandfather Roy Haynes.
This recording belongs indeed to the great New York creative tradition: it's bold, it sings, and strikes the ear. This album may only be the half of a double, it's already without a doubt a great jazz record.
