Smother Me
David Simmons
A Philly-style soul singer with pipes that are strongly reminiscent of the late, great Teddy Pendergrass, David Simmons has become a noted vocalist in his own right. After Pendergrass left his position as lead singer for Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Simmons was asked by Melvin to be Teddys replacement, a job Simmons refused because he didnt want to be pegged as just another sound-alike. In the late 1970s, Simmons released two critically acclaimed albums on the WMOT label that gained him an audience in the States, and an even bigger one in the United Kingdom with tracks like Will They Miss Me, and Love Tonight making an impact. A talented singer whos as good as it gets, David Simmons continues to impress audiences wherever he performs. Presented here is a self-produced, previously unreleased solo album originally recorded in 1986 at Advanced Sound Studios and K.T.P. Studio with legendary Philly soul icon James Ingram handling the musical arrangements. The album features nine great tracks, with Simmons having a hand in penning six of them. Now that David is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, and about to release a brand new album, his longtime fans can finally get to hear this unreleased gem that has languished in the vaults for nearly 30 years. All selections have been newly remastered.
