In 2023, R.E.M.'s 11th studio album, UP, will celebrate its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the album has been newly remastered.
This deluxe 2-CD/Blu-ray set includes the remastered album and a never-before-released 11-track live performance from the band's '99 taping for the TV series Party of Five. Additionally, the Blu-ray features Up in Hi-Res and 5.1 Surround Sound audio, performance footage, the original EPK, plus HD-restored music videos including "At My Most Beautiful," "Daysleeper," and "Lotus."
"Up" marked a distinct shift in R.E.M.'s musical style, incorporating more electronic elements and experimental sounds compared to their previous albums. This was partly influenced by the departure of drummer Bill Berry in 1997, which led the remaining members to explore new musical territories. The album features the singles "Lotus," "Suspicion", "At My Most Beautiful," and standout track "Daysleeper", which was the lead single.
