Their Satanic Majesties Request National Album Day 2025 Zoetrope Vinyl edition
The Rolling Stones
From one of the most legendary rock bands in history comes an exclusive National Album Day release: a zoetrope edition of Their Satanic Majesties Request. The Rolling Stones’ sixth studio album originally appeared in December 1967, issued by Decca Records in the UK and London Records in the US. Notably, it was the first Stones album to be released in identical versions in both countries, with the title playfully referencing the British passport phrase “Her Britannic Majesty requests and requires.”
The album marked a bold step into psychedelic territory, with the band experimenting with Mellotron, sound effects, string arrangements, and African-inspired rhythms. Produced entirely by the band themselves after the departure of manager/producer Andrew Loog Oldham, the recording sessions were chaotic and extended, characterized by drug use, legal issues, and band members arriving at the studio at different times.
Yet out of this whirlwind emerged iconic tracks such as “She’s a Rainbow”, with its lush harmonies, piano, and strings; the reflective “2000 Man”, exploring themes of identity in a changing world; the riff-driven “Citadel”; and the dreamlike, psychedelic “In Another Land”. All songs were penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, with the exception of “In Another Land”, written by Bill Wyman.
