Solstafir | Hin Helga Kvöl

'Hin helga kvöl' (The Holy Suffering) is a deeply emotional album from Sólstafir, drawing on their Icelandic heritage and the dramatic beauty of their homeland's landscapes. The band, whose name refers to sunbeams breaking through clouds, channels themes of inner struggle, personal demons and redemption throughout the record.

The album was recorded at Flóki Studios in remote Skagafjörður, which added to its atmospheric depth. It fuses Sólstafir's melancholic sound with their roots in black metal and melodic rock, creating a haunting and redemptive listening experience. With eight tracks that explore the concept of suffering on both a personal and a universal level, 'Hin helga kvöl' reflects not only human pain, but also the anguish of nature and spirituality. The album artwork, created by Rowan E Cassidy, visually reflects the emotional complexity of the music using strong gold tones.
