Flow Properties of Polar and Non-polar Hard-rod Fluids: a Study of the Orientational Effect on the Flow Behavior by the Investigation of Nonlinear Equations ... Tensor and Dipole Vector
Sebastian Heidenreich
The orientational behavior and flow properties of polar and non-polar hard rod fluids subjected to a flow is investigated. The averaged orientation and dipole moments of rods are represented by the second rank alignment tensor and the dipole vector, respectively. In the framework of irreversible thermodynamics the governing equations for dipolar hard rod fluids are derived. The resulting nonlinear hydrodynamic equations under the presence of walls are studied. Surprising and remarkable non-Newtonian flow feedback effects are found and reported as apparent velocity slip, oscillating non-monotonic flow behavior, shear induced dynamical polarization and much more.
