Edith Morley was the first woman to be appointed to a chair at an English university, becoming Professor of English at Reading in 1908. She was an early feminist with a strong social conscience. This is her 1944 memoir, covering her childhood, her student days, early feminism, the growth of the university and, much later, her work with refugees.
