Glaucoma: Current Practices in Ophthalmology

The group of eye conditions which cause damage to the optic nerve and vision loss is known as glaucoma. Gradual progressive loss of the visual field and optic nerve changes are the symptoms of open-angle glaucoma. Closed-angle glaucoma is accompanied by sudden ocular pain, red eye, high intraocular pressure, and vision of halo around lights. A diagnosis of glaucoma is based on an eye examination using tonometry and gonioscopy. The examination also involves a review of race, sex, refraction, drug use and family history. Strategies such as surgery, laser treatment and glaucoma medications are available for the management of glaucoma. Laser treatments are usually effective in both closed-angle and open-angle glaucoma. In cases, where medication or other therapies do not suffice, surgery may be performed. This book contains some path-breaking studies in glaucoma. Also included herein is a detailed explanation of the various clinical practices in modern ophthalmology. This book is meant for students who are looking for an elaborate reference text on glaucoma.
