Princess Anne County, Virginia, Land and Probate Records Abstracted from Deed Books 1-7

Princess Anne County, Virginia, was formed from part of Lower Norfolk County in 1691, so the earliest records for this area will be found in Norfolk County. In 1962, Princess Anne County was incorporated into the city of Virginia Beach, Virginia, by which name it is now known. These deed books contain both wills and deeds because it was not until after the American Revolution that deeds and wills were recorded in separate books. Everyone did not leave a will, and sometimes all heirs were not named in a will. Considerable genealogical material may be found in deeds. This text attempts to abstract family records from 1691 to 1755. The varied spelling of surnames has been retained. Information abstracted from wills includes (when recorded): page number in deed book, date a will was written, date of probate, testator, given and surnames of those named in the will and their relationship to one another, witnesses, and executors. Deed abstracts include page number in deed book, date recorded, given and surnames of grantor(s) and grantee(s) and relationship to one another, consideration, brief description of property, and witnesses. A surname index is included.
