An Unbelievable Hoot is a funny, risqu novel about a lawyer who owns land formerly used as an industrial chemical factory but is now occupied by Dakers Diggers, a plant hire company. In digging next to their showroom to put in foundations for an extension, they unwittingly release gases from chemicals previously buried that have a strange effect on passersby. A magistrate unknowingly breathes in the gases before entering Do-It-All, a hardware superstore. He is compelled to grab and squeeze the bottom of a lady who turns out to be an off-duty policewoman. She immediately arrests him. Others are similarly affected with riotous results.
