Long ago, in a small shop on a small side street in a small town, a tailor has just put the last stitch in a fine red coat with a white-fur trim. With the remaining scraps of red cloth, he sews a tasseled nightcap unlike any other nightcap he has made before. But month after month, year after year, forgotten on the dusty shelf, the hat and its tassel remain for so long that strange things begin to happenÑmagical thingsÑand an adventure that takes them from the tailorÕs shop to the North Pole and beyond.
