Alexandre Dumas
La San Felice is regarded by many French critics to be one of the greatest historical novels of Alexandre Dumas, Père-but it failed to gather much attention in Britain when it was first released, due to the unfavorable portrayal of Admiral Lord Nelson. Playwright Maurice Drack (the pseudonym of Auguste Alfred Poitevin [1834-1897]) here provides a powerful adaptation and condensation of Dumas's original fiction into dramatic form. Set in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in Italy during Napoleonic times, the play deals with tyrants and traitors and great acts of heroism. This is the first translation of this notable work into English.
