FIRE CAKES is written in what I prefer to call clear verse: it is poetry one can understand, from the simplicity of 'Friendship' but four lines in length, to 'Coffee,' a beverage so many of us can to relate to, and to Forever, about life itself. There are more deeper and reflective works, 'Berlin's Wall' and 'Idled' (an unemployed individual.) The is love, and light pieces, too ('Sleepless Night,' and 'Ode to a Birthday.')'The Bone Yard' is a sentimental piece on ships sent to the breakers. There are also, unusually in this day and age, two historical pieces, 'Cold Men Starving,' about the suffering Continental Army, and an epic of over 900 lines on the greatest naval battle ever fought, the 'Battle for Leyte Gulf.'
